The Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity (AFSE) Program 2026 is now open for applications. This fully funded fellowship is designed to empower emerging leaders dedicated to advancing social equity and justice across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, and the Pacific region.

Rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems and guided by Indigenous-led principles, the program is part of the global Atlantic Fellows network. It provides a transformative learning experience combining academic study, leadership development, cultural learning, and hands-on community projects. Fellows work alongside thought leaders, local innovators, and global experts to challenge systemic inequalities and co-create sustainable solutions.

About the Fellowship

The AFSE Program 2026 is co-hosted by the University of Melbourne and Waipapa Taumata Rau (University of Auckland). It targets mid-career professionals deeply involved in community work who are passionate about turning bold ideas into real-world initiatives that promote justice, equity, and Indigenous-led change.

The program offers fellows:

  • Full financial support for a Master’s degree in Social Change Leadership at the University of Melbourne.
  • Coverage of tuition, travel, accommodation, and cultural immersion programs.
  • A living allowance for day-to-day expenses.
  • Personalized academic support, including tutoring and peer study groups.
  • Access to mental health and wellbeing services led by Indigenous counselors.
  • Support for participants with disabilities.
  • Full access to University of Melbourne’s resources and facilities.
  • Funding of up to $30,000 for professional development and community impact projects in subsequent years.
  • Lifetime membership in the global Atlantic Fellows network.

This fellowship equips participants with the skills, mentorship, and networks to amplify their influence and drive lasting social change.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, or a Pacific Island nation.
  • Have 5–8 years of experience in social impact or community leadership (mid-career professionals, ages 25–65) or hold a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Not be enrolled in any other academic program as of January 2026.
  • Not currently participate in another Atlantic Fellowship program.
  • Be fluent in English.
  • Be ready and available for approximately seven weeks of travel across Australia and New Zealand in 2026.
  • Pacific Island applicants must be eligible for an Australian student visa.

All applications must be submitted by Monday, July 28, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. (AEST).
